January 12-13, 2008 Ohio RA Winter Hotel Camp Out, Southeast Regional Meeting and Brunch   Reserve your room TODAY at the Historic Lafayette Hotel in Marietta!  We have a block of 12 rooms (camp sites) reserved (until January 4, 2008 ) for RA Members and interested BMW riders who wish to stay over on Saturday night. Call the Lafayette Hotel at 800-331-9336 or 740-373-5522 and reserve your room today by mentioning that you are with the BMW Riders Assoc. Rooms start at $49 for a cabin room, with a Queen room at $69 and with some other room sizes available (plus tax). The Lafayette Hotel is a Grand Riverboat Era Hotel right on the Ohio River Front at the Muskingum River. Just beyond the hotel is Historic Harmar Village with its' quaint brick streets. Also of interest is the nearby Fenton Art Glass Factory and the Middleton Doll Factory. Tour the city wearing something with the RA logo, and you will find fellow members. We meet in the hotel lobby on Saturday evening for fun around the campfire. Bring a candle. On Sunday morning enjoy a delicious all you can eat breakfast buffet that will begin at 9:30 AM, in the Rufus Putnam Room of the hotel at a cost of $13.82 per person. Price includes full gourmet buffet and your choice of beverage with tax and gratuity included. We will hold a short meeting around 11:00 AM to plan the 2008 Ohio riding season and discuss the state of the RA on local and national levels. February 10, 2008 Ohio RA Northwest Regional Winter Breakfast-Meeting Thanks to the efforts of Ohio RA member Gary Haydel and BMW Riders of Toledo, we will be meeting at a new location this year. With breakfast starting at 9 AM and the meeting at 10, we will discuss the fast approaching riding season, review planned local events, and provide more details about the BMW RA International Rally. March 16, 2008 Ohio RA Central State Regional Meeting and Brunch will be held at 10:00 AM in the Pioneer Restaurant located at 50 Columbus Rd, Utica, Ohio 43080 (St Rt 62 just west of Rt 13). The last indoor meeting of the off season.  You all should be back from Daytona Bike Week by then and have some great stories to share. Details of the coming BMW RA International Rally and the related efforts of the Ohio Region members will again be prominent on the discussion agenda.  We will also be finalizing our 2008 riding season calendar of events. April 26-27, 2008  Ohio RA Mt. Vernon Spring Camp Out our season opener on the last full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) in April at the Kokosing Valley Camp and Canoe 1/2 mile west of Millwood, OH (on the south side of US 36 just west of US 62)  Anyome wanting to arrive on Friday is welcome to do so.  I will be there with Kathi and Shiloh to set up around 3 in the afternoon.  Per person per night rates will still apply, so check in at the office to register.  This will be another great year at this location that has many amenities: flush toilets, hot showers, a laundry, miniature golf, swimming pool (for the brave), basketball, baseball, horseshoe pits, and an on site camp store, just to name a few.  Restaurants can be found close by in Millwood and Danville.  We will be in "Area B" (right across from the Office/Store) and have the picnic shelter. Camping cost is $5.00 per person per night and there is water and electric at each site.  Campers\trailers will be $25 per night.  Please register at the camp office on arrival.  The Ohio RA will provide continuous coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.  Saturday night, "share a dish if you wish" potluck.  Adult beverages are permitted.  Excellent riding roads are found in every direction from the campgrounds. Also, nearby is the Kokosing Gap Trail for hikers.  If you are considering bringing firewood please contact your Region Rep before hand.  Come on out and see why everyone loves this nice location to break in your new camping equipment. *****June 2008 BMW RA Ohio Region Summer Camp Out This event is usually held on Fathers Day weekend.  However due to the combination of early June local club activities and the International Rally being in June again this year, the Ohio RA Summer Camp Out will not be held.  I am working on a new location for next year.  However, the folks with YBMW have graciously invited the Ohio RA to join them at their unrally on the weekend of September 19, 20 and 21.  They are still in the planning stages, but it will include a Saturday night catered dinner and a day ride on Saturday afternoon.  This will be a great unrally! Check back for details periodically. Confirmed!

June 19-22, 2008 BMW RA's 36^th International Rally will be at the Michigan Tech Campus in Houghton, MI in the beautiful Upper Pennsulia. Details will be posted on the main RA web site as they unfold. Again in the tradition of the RA there will be more great riding than you can do in one week. Another true "Riders Rally" along with all the usual festivities is in store. July 25-27 and August 1-3, 2008 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days and AMA Superbike at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Lexington , OH. For the past several years, RA Ohio Region members have volunteered for track set up and/or tear down work and in exchange for a "cold pass" for both weekends -- a sweet deal. We have been invited to participate again this year.  Set-up of the air modules has been tentatively set for Thursday July 24 sometime after 4:00 PM as there is a track day for cars scheduled.  This will occur rain or shine.  Packing up of the modules will occur after the track goes cold following the last Superbike race on August 3. October 31-November 2, 2008 Ohio RA Halloween Camp Out at the Trail Riders Campground, 4 miles north of Cadiz on SR 9.  Primitive camping, pit toilets, and a paved road into the campsite.  Look for a Harrison State Forest sign marked “Trail Riders Campground”. All interested BMW riders are invited to this end of season the camp out. RA-Ohio coffee, tea, etc., Sam Hill Memorial Ride at noon, "bring a dish if you wish" potluck on Saturday evening and more. November 8-9, 2008 RA Northeast Ohio Meeting and Brunch 9:00-11:00 AM in the restaurant at the Atwood Lake Resort in the Tappan Room. Enjoy a fabulous Sunday brunch for only $9.95 and stay for the regional meeting at 10:00 AM. On Saturday night some riders camp out nearby (weather permitting) while others stay in the lodge. Last year, we stayed at the resort Saturday evening, and got a special double room rate of $89 which included the Sunday breakfast buffet for two. The same deal will be requested in '08 and we hope you will be able to call the Atwood Resort at 800.362.6406 and get the same special room rates. This posting will be updated in the Fall.
