Meals

The Pasty Party!

A Cornish pastyThe "Pasty"* if you don't know by now, is a traditional meal of da UP. The Pasty was a staple meal for the copper miners in the Keweenaw for many years. So we've decided it would be fitting to have our own pasty feed after the closing ceremonies on Saturday. The pasties will be served fast and hot cafeteria style by MTU chefs in the tennis center and include, cole slaw, homemade cookies, coffee & lemonade. Gravy or "Toivo & Eino's Really Secret Pasty Sauce" will be available to top off your pasty! To encourage pre-registration for the RAlly, a ticket to the Pasty Party will only be five bucks if purchased during pre-registration. If you have to wait, they will be available for $7.50 during registration at Rally Central when you arrive. Creation of a pasty takes time so the MTU chefs need a pasty count. Pasties will not be sold during the feed unless there are a few "no shows". Vegetarian pasties are available if you let us know when buying your ticket. Following the Pasty Party we are hoping to be entertained by Conga Se Menne for a little "Finnish Reggae and Other Sauna Beats" to conclude our Yooper evening.

* It's pronounced PAST-ey.

In addition to the food being sold at Rally Central, MTU is offering buffet style breakfasts and dinners at Wads Hall located down the hill from the rally site. Friday & Saturday buffet breakfasts will be $11.50 tax included. Thursday's fried chicken & spaghetti is $13.50, and Friday's planked Lake Superior white fish & carved roast beef is $15.50. The buffets are "all you can eat" and include all the side options, desert, and beverage. If you pre-buy the buffets through MTU's website, they will each be discounted $2. Rally Central Food & Beverage

The MTU chefs & bartenders will also be providing for our needs at Rally Central. For those cool mornings a variety of light breakfast items (sandwiches, donuts, cinnamon rolls, fruit) as well as juices, tea, and coffee will be available at 6:00 AM ($1.00-$2.75). Don't forget to try the "Trenary Toast", another Yooper delicacy. We almost forget! In staying with tradition the RA will be providing free coffee on Thursday, Friday, & Saturday mornings at 7:00 AM.

From 11:30 till midnight, the chefs will serve brats, hot dogs, burgers, pizza, salads and a variety of "munchies" including ice cream. ($1~4). The bartenders will be serving pints of micro-brewed Beers for $2.50 as well as wine ($3.50) and a variety of cocktails ($3.50-$4.50). Rumor is that the Keweenaw Brewery will be creating a special brew for our RAlly. Yes, a nationally recognized "light beer" will also be available.
